When I came to Singapore, I did not have any plans other than to help and support my family and give them a brighter future.”
Stephanie Raciles is one of Uplifters’ Gold Team Leaders. Our Gold Team Leaders have already facilitated five sessions of our three week online course ‘Dare to Dream’ on money management and personal growth. Learn more about how she took action to make changes in her life.
“The moment I saw Uplifters in my Facebook feed, I told myself I to give it a try and see if it works. But when the first lesson of ‘Dare to Dream’ started, it immediately caught my interest, so I decided to dedicate my time and complete the course.
I was an easy-going person before. I did not think much about the future or what comes next for me after working abroad. I was a “go with the flow” type person, believing that things will get better as long as I keep hoping and working hard. I have a dream, but I did not know how to make it come true. One important thing that I learned from the course is setting a goal to achieve my dreams, such as learning new skills and saving money for my future. Now I feel empowered. Even my close friends can see the changes in me.
What was particularly challenging for me was saying “no” to friends and family who borrow money from me, as I did not want to disappoint them. I found myself doing favours as requested, until it became a habit, and I felt taken for granted. When I enrolled in Uplifters, I learned how to handle these situations. It changed the way I acted and looked at life.
Being a Team Leader is not easy, but it’s worth it. I learn a great deal from my fellow domestic workers’ experiences. We uplift, and we encourage each other to be the best we can.”
