I am Melanie Villar, from Pangasinan, Philippines, and I have been working in Hong Kong since 2011 to support my two children alone. As a single parent, widowed at 24, I had no choice but to work hard to build a home and provide an education for my children. Joining Uplifters in March 2018 changed my journey — I found a community that empowers migrant domestic workers with free education, genuine support, and a sense of purpose. Through Dare to Dream, I learned to manage my finances and live debt-free, improve my relationship with my family, and become a better leader in my community. Consistent hard work, determination, and strength of will are the keys that shape my life. A huge thank you to Uplifters for this life-changing journey — I am proud to be one of the Uplifters.
