This summer, Uplifters was honoured to participate in the Philippine Consulate General’s Focus Group Discussion on the Hong Kong Government’s proposals to enhance the regulation of licensed money lenders.
Our representative joined fellow NGOs and union leaders to share experiences and contribute insights on how debt and predatory lending practices affect migrant domestic workers.
The discussion was very well organised and enriched by the diverse experience in the room with each organisation bringing their unique perspectives.
At Uplifters, we see firsthand how financial stress impacts migrant domestic workers. Our free online courses and community support programmes focus on financial literacy, personal growth, and mental well-being, empowering migrant domestic workers to build brighter futures for themselves and their families, and equipping them with tools to manage their finances responsibly and to resist predatory lending practices.
We thank the Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong for convening such an important and timely dialogue, and we remain committed to working with all stakeholders to ensure stronger protections and greater financial resilience for domestic workers.
